Equicaching is a new and entertaining adventure game for trail riders that use a GPS (Global Position Satellite). The concept is based on the popular online geocaching game or sport. The original geocaching was targeted at hikers, but a treasure hunt via horseback is a natural evolution of an exciting outdoor sport. Participating in a horseback treasure hunt is a great way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of GPS units while enjoying a trek on your favorite trails. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up treasure caches all over the globe and share the locations of these caches on the internet. Other GPS trail riders can then use the location coordinates to try and find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the finder with a wide variety of rewards. All the finder is asked to do is to leave something for the cache to replace what they might take.
What's the fun in this? You have the GPS coordinates so you know where the treasure is. How is this a challenge? It can be a big challenge. It's one thing to see where an item is located, it's another story to actually get there.
PLUS! Please save and download the routes from your last GPS orienteered trail ride to share with others. A special archive of "Ride My Trail" is being created so all trail riders can share their favorite trails and locations with others. After all, the true treasure is our trails! Send any questions or your GPS waypoint downloads and descriptions to the webmaster.
